Linux is the most widely used and best – known open source operating system. As an operating system, Linux is software that sits on a machine under all the other applications, receiving requests from those programs and relaying those requests to the hardware of the computer.

Also, Linux is special in that although the main sections of the Linux operating system are common in general, there are many Linux distributions which include different software options. This ensures Linux is extremely versatile, because it is not only easy to switch programs such as word processors and web browsers. Linux users can also choose the core components, such as which system shows images, and other components of the user interface.

Ubuntu:

Ubuntu is a complete Ubuntu desktop operating system, which is freely available with support from both the government and the industry. The Ubuntu project is founded on the ideals enshrined in the Ubuntu Manifesto: that software should be available free of charge, that software tools should be functional by people in their local language and beyond any handicaps, and that people should have the freedom to customize and change their apps in whatever way they see fit. “Ubuntu” is an ancient African word which means “humanity towards others.” The Ubuntu upgrade is bringing Ubuntu ‘s energy into the domain of software.

Debian:

The Debian Project is an association of individuals who have created a safe operating system by common cause. The operating system we built is named Debian.

An operating system is the set of core programs so tools that will power the machine. The Kernel lies at the core of an operating system. The kernel is the most basic program on your computer, and it does all the necessary housekeeping and allows you to start other programs.

Debian systems currently use the FreeBSD kernel or the Linux kernel. Linux is a piece of software developed by Linus Torvalds and followed worldwide by thousands of programmers. FreeBSD is an operating system with a kernel and other programs in it.

Red Hat:

Red Hat Linux, developed by Red Hat corporation, was a commonly used version of Linux until it was discontinued in 2004.The new plan is to use most of Fedora’s codebase while creating new releases on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Fedora takes the place of the original distribution and sale edition of Red Hat Linux. The concept is similar to the relationship between Netscape Communicator and Mozilla, or Star Office and OpenOffice.org, although the corresponding consumer product is completely free software in this case too.

Fedora:

Fedora is a Linux distribution developed by the community – supported Fedora Project, which is sponsored primarily by Red Hat, a subsidiary of IBM, with additional support from other companies. Fedora contains software distributed under various free and open – source licenses and aims to be on the leading edge of free technologies. Fedora is the upstream source of the commercial Red Hat Enterprise Linux distribution.

Centos:

The deployment of CentOS Linux is a stable, predictable, scalable, and reproducible architecture, originating from Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) sources. We are now looking to expand on this by providing the tools that other groups need to come together and develop on the Linux platform of CentOS. And we are starting the process today by providing a consistent model of governance, greater transparency so access. We plan to publish our own roadmap in the coming weeks which includes variants of the core CentOS Linux.
